A new insurance giant in Mauritius

On February 3, 2026, Sanlam and Jubilee Allianz announced their merger to create a new company: SanlamAllianz General Insurance Ltd. As part of a major African group present in 26 countries and worth almost $2 billion, the new company has a mission: to combine local experience with the strength of a major international group.

This alliance marks a new stage for the Mauritian market. Led by Managing Director Pamela Bussier, the company aims to offer simpler, safer insurance products that are better adapted to the needs of Mauritians. “The combined expertise and resources of our respective companies will enable us to offer innovative insurance solutions and services while generating value for partners and all stakeholders, thanks to greater economies of scale, an expanded geographical presence, a reinforced market share and an even more diversified product offering,” she says.

Based in Port-Louis, SanlamAllianz General Insurance Ltd is already planning to invest in digitalization and technological innovation to make insurance services even more accessible and efficient. A decision which, backed by the international expertise of the Sanlam group, promises to open up new opportunities for Mauritius.

“We need global underwriting and reinsurance capabilities, as well as localized offshore expertise. The development of products tailored to emerging risks – such as professional liability, credit insurance or cyber insurance – will enable us to move upmarket as an international financial center,” emphasized the Hon. Jyoti Jeetun, Minister of Financial Services, at the gala evening held at The Residence.
