Absa Maurice rewards its talents at the Shujaa Awards 2026

Absa Mauritius held its annual Shujaa Awards and Long Service Awards 2026 ceremony in the elegant surroundings of Le Méridien hotel, bringing together employees, Board members and distinguished guests. Among those present, Charles Russon, Group Executive Africa Regions, and Ben Dyson, Chief Financial Officer AR, emphasized the strategic importance of the Mauritian franchise within the Absa Group.

A total of 91 employees were honored for their length of service (from 10 to 40 years), while 17 winners were chosen from 88 nominees, following a particularly demanding selection process this year. The 2026 edition marks an evolution in the program, with the declared aim of enhancing its prestige by rewarding only contributions with a real and lasting impact.

Awards were presented in six categories: Innovation & Resourcefulness, Deal of the Year, Customer Obsession, Best Idea Generated, Future-Focused Sustainability & Stewardship, and the MD Award. The winners included Aarti Sookun Seeruttun for Deal of the Year, Shezad Suhootoorah for MD Award, and the team of Adiila Husnoo, Annabelle Mercier, Sameer Soudageer and Kristel Lew Yaw Fung for Innovation & Resourcefulness. This year’s edition also illustrates the dynamic of inclusion, with 53 women and 29 men nominated. In addition, three winners were honored for the second year running, demonstrating the company’s long-standing commitment to excellence.

Inspired by the Swahili word for “hero”, the Shujaa program honors those who embody Absa’s values (Trust, Resourcefulness, Stewardship, Inclusion and Courage) and make a difference every day. Christine Orono, Head of Human Capital, reminded us that this recognition goes far beyond results: it values the behavior and lasting commitment of our employees. Certified Top Employer for the second year running, Absa Maurice thus confirms its position as a benchmark employer on the island.
