At the cutting edge of technology!

Are you familiar with laparoscopic surgery, a “mini-invasive” technique that allows surgery to be performed through small incisions in the skin? This innovative diagnostic and therapeutic procedure is one of the pillars of C-Care Wellkin’s medical approach. Dr Pravish Sookha, a specialist in bariatric surgery and laparoscopy, tells us more.

In the first half of thee century that laparoscopy was really born, a method of observation via a cut in the skin! “At the time, it was used for diagnostic purposes, mainly in gynecology. Nowadays, it is also used in surgery, to introduce an endoscope and other instruments through an incision no bigger than a buttonhole,” says Dr. Sookha.

Forty years on, methods have indeed been refined and this revolutionary technique, now extremely popular, has opened up to other disciplines and procedures. Cholecystectomy, appendectomy, hernia repair, bariatric and metabolic surgery, liver and pancreas surgery, surgical oncology, endoscopic procedures… So many minimally invasive procedures that, inspired by laparoscopic surgery, are now offered at C-Care Wellkin by highly trained experts!

“Our aim is to ensure that Mauritians have access to the highest quality surgical care, without having to leave the country – one less stress for them!” adds Dr. Indeed, not only faster to perform, laparoscopic surgery has many advantages. “Unlike traditional surgery, which is much more taxing on the body, this technique is less painful, less prone to infection, less traumatic, and promotes faster healing,” he continues. This means less time in the clinic, and less post-operative care!
