Officially launched on March 25, 2026, the “Taxi by ala-lila, powered by Uber” platform is already creating a buzz. Just two weeks after its launch, Logidis, the operator behind the service, is announcing that thousands of requests for rides are being registered every day. A great start for this first-of-its-kind service on the island!
Several hundred licensed cab drivers are already registered on the platform, and hundreds more are in the process of signing up. The most active are already running several dozen trips a week. For Yannis Fayd’herbe, Chief Operating Officer of Logidis, all the indicators are green: the figures reflect a real public demand for a simpler, more modern and more accessible mobility solution in Mauritius.
While the response is undeniable, Logidis acknowledges that the running-in is still in progress. Waiting times, occasional cancellations, geographical coverage to be expanded… the company takes this feedback seriously and is actively working to improve the experience. The main challenge remains to upgrade the skills of our drivers, who are used to very different working methods. Training, field follow-up, change management: a whole ecosystem to build!
Since Uber adapts to the regulations in force in each of the countries where the company operates, only drivers holding a PSVL license can operate on the platform, in accordance with the Road Traffic Act. A legal constraint, but also a guarantee of seriousness. Rates, based on distance and journey time, have been set in line with local market prices, and will evolve over time.
To facilitate adoption, Logidis has relied on generous promotions since the launch, with discounts of up to 100% on certain journeys. Drivers benefit from an exceptional commission of 1% for the first two months, capped at 10% for the remainder of the first year, with weekly bonuses depending on their performance.
