Louka Pitot, Carried by the Mauritian Wind

A Mauritian who grew up by the sea and has never really left the wind behind : Louka Pitot, a native of Péreybère, discovered kitesurfing at the age of 10, after seeing a friend glide across the water. That day, he realized that there was something special about this sport. More than just a hobby, kitesurfing became , little by little, a part essential partof his life. Taysiir Joomun

Now 27 years old, Louka is a five-time French champion, European champion, two-time junior world champion, and has also finished third in the world among seniors. But behind the titles lies, above all, a passion that has remained undiminished. Every morning, his first instinct is simple: to look outside to see if there’s any wind. For him, kitesurfing boils down to one word above all else: freedom. On the water, there’s no set path. You move with the wind, adapt to the conditions, and learn to accept what you can’t control. It’s a lesson this sport has taught him—one he carries with him in his outlook on life.

After completing his studies in Montpellier, Louka decided to return to live in Mauritius. In his view, the island offers an exceptional playground for kitesurfing, thanks to the trade winds, the lagoons, and the colors of the water. While Le Morne remains a very well-known spot, he also wants to introduce people to other locations, particularly the east coast.

From June 26 to 28, Louka will be at C Mauritius Palmar for the 5thth edition of the C Kite Festival, an event he’s been part of since the very beginning. For him, this event is a source of pride because it showcases Mauritius’s potential for kitesurfing. During this year’s festival, his role will also be to share his experience, answer questions, and help those who want to improve. For young people looking to get started, his advice is simple: watch, ask questions, but above all, take lessons at a school to build a solid foundation from the start.
