Mahogany, a hymn to the Mauritian art of living

On June 24, Mahogany Shopping Promenade celebrates its 4th anniversary! To mark the occasion, a succession of musical events will enliven the mall, located at the heart of the smart city of Beau Plan and a perfect example of a “new lakeside lifestyle”, imbued with a modernism tinged with the region’s industrial and agricultural past.

A whole soul…

Part of Beau Plan’s visionary smart city development, itself driven by Novaterra’s far-reaching mission to “build the city of tomorrow”, the 12,000 m2 of Mahogany Shopping Promenade offer a unique approach to shopping. The Intermart supermarket, boutiques, restaurants, terraces, leisure areas and services (banking, insurance) coexist with the omnipresent nature (25,000 trees and plants) and lake, creating the harmonious landscape of a destination in its own right! All around, bicycle paths, pedestrian access and green spaces bear witness to the developer’s green strategy, reinforced by a number of eco-responsible initiatives. “The initial idea was to create a place for life, culture, music… but also a connection to nature, for everyone! For example, the mall is very popular with families at sunset on the lake”, says Davina Abel, MarCom coordinator at Mahogany.

If special attention is paid to the environment, its protection and beautification, as well as to promoting creativity and innovation (see LGM May 2025 p18-19), we have to admit that the results are there, with an average of 240,000 visitors to Mahogany Shopping Promenade every month. Davina adds: “This year, we also welcomed Pan Asian, which offers delicious Asian fusion cuisine, thanks to the expertise of its Vietnamese chef.

What a program!

As part of World Environment Day on June 5, an information campaign on the fate of plastic bulky items (alongside PIM Recycling) and electronic waste (with Mission Verte) has just taken place, ahead of a concrete project that will come to life next September. “We will be collecting plastic chairs, tables, deckchairs, dustbins, bins, baskets, etc. from the Beau Plan, Bois Rouge and Pamplemousse areas, in a campaign starting on September 20, around World Clean-up Day, and running until October 11. A dumpster will be available on four Saturdays, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at the Mahogany spillover parking area.”

On the entertainment front, a musical whirlwind will blow out the mall’s four candles live, starting on June 21, in honor of theFête de la Musique, with Cool People United (Eric Triton Live Band), followed by a DJ. The following weekend will see the programming oftwo concerts featuring some very fine line-ups: Nathaniel, The Blacklisted and Annega will take to the stage on Friday June 27, while The Prophecy, Ludmila Ono and Sael and friends (a promising young talent) will perform on Saturday June 28.
