To mark Independence Day celebrations, Mauritius Telecom has reaffirmed its commitment to national education. Through its CSR arm, the Mauritius Telecom Foundation, the company is providing significant financial support to Le Morne Primary School for a series of educational projects. The event was held on March 11 at the school, where MT CEO Veemal Gungadin was guest of honor at the flag-raising ceremony.

Benjamin Franklin asserted that an investment in knowledge always pays the best interest. Mauritius Telecom takes this maxim literally. The financial aid granted will enable this south-western school to carry out a number of structuring initiatives, including the installation of libraries in classrooms and the introduction of after-school teaching support activities.

The school will also benefit from a year’s free internet access, as well as a printer and laptops donated by MT. This modern equipment will give students and teachers greater access to digital teaching tools, essential in a world where digital transformation is redefining skills and professions.

For Veemal Gungadin, the approach is clear: preparing the future of Mauritius starts in the classroom. By investing in education, Mauritius Telecom promotes inclusion and equal opportunities, helping to train the talents who will build the Mauritius of tomorrow. In addition to this institutional commitment, MT employees are also committed to solidarity. True to their “We care” values, they have mobilized Rs 61,090 to purchase educational materials, school supplies, community games and essential equipment.

This support for Le Morne elementary school is part of a wider initiative. The Mauritius Telecom Foundation regularly supports children from underprivileged backgrounds, providing them with notebooks, school bags and other essentials to help them continue their education. Recently, the MTF also donated fans and a laptop computer to the Collège Royal in Port-Louis.

In addition to hardware support, the company launched mytGPT at the beginning of the year, an educational pilot project developed in collaboration with the French Ministry of Education and Human Resources. Deployed in eight primary and secondary schools, this system introduces an intelligent teaching assistant offering personalized follow-up for students, while providing teachers with innovative tools to energize their practices. Initiatives that combine social responsibility, technological innovation and building a fair future for all!
