After Telvimathe fantasy novel written by Stéphanie Fanchette, the brand-new publishing house Namma Éditions unveils its second book: Mes jolies petites mains. Written by Virginie Zarour, a kindergarten teacher for over 20 years, and illustrated by Caroline Semonella Martial, who trained at the Beaux-Arts de Nice art school, this gentle, poetic little book is sure to delight both young and old! A few brushstrokes in watercolor – almost a caress – vivid yet delicate colors and, above all, infinite gentleness: that’s how Virginie Zarour and Caroline Semonella Martial sum up their first children’s book. Aimed at toddlers, Mes jolies petites mains was first and foremost born of an observation: a lack of age-appropriate content on the local market. Thanks to her professional background, Virginie Zarour is very close to the sensitivities and needs of toddlers.
“Since she is immersed in the world of childhood, Virginie wanted to create a book that would emphasize the sensory exploration of the young child, which is the basis for learning and discovering the world during this period,” explains Séverine Martial, director of Namma Éditions. For her part, Caroline Semonella Martial, artist-painter and creator of the Filigrane workshop, infused the book with beautiful, bright colors, full of lightness and life – the perfect symbolization of this tender age!
While this new book, designed to accompany toddlers in their first moments of wonder, is a first for the island, the young publishing house has no intention of stopping there. “Eventually, we’d like to be able to create a whole collection to accompany young children in their daily lives and put words to their new discoveries,” adds Séverine. We’ll be keeping a close eye on this one!
