To mark its 30th anniversary, Prévention Information Lutte contre le Sida (PILS) is unveiling a new visual identity and announcing a major shift in its mission. Building on its longstanding commitment to the fight against HIV, the organization is expanding its work to encompass sexual health in its entirety, substance-related issues, and the defense of rights. This repositioning reflects its commitment to addressing the public health challenges of today and tomorrow. Since its founding in 1996, PILS has helped shape practices, public policies, and attitudes surrounding HIV. Despite taboos and resistance, the organization has consistently engaged in advocacy, innovation, and dialogue with institutions to improve access to prevention, care, and rights.
With this new identity, PILS promotes a more open and inclusive approach to sexual health, understood as a state of physical, mental, and social well-being, in accordance with the World Health Organization’s definition. The organization currently operates Banian, Mauritius’s first sexual health center, which offers prevention, screening, treatment, and support services. Its teams are among the few that work on the ground, across all regions of the country, to reach the most vulnerable populations.
It also advocates for a harm-reduction approach to drug use, while calling for a new drug policy based on scientific evidence and respect for human rights. This advocacy remains essential as new HIV infections and drug-related problems continue to be a cause for concern. Against a backdrop of declining international funding, PILS is calling on businesses and individuals to support the continuation of its efforts in the service of public health.
