Samudra Art Prize 2026: a new jury and less than a month to enter!

The Samudra Art Prize unveils its new jury for the 2026 edition and starts the countdown: artists have just one month left to submit their works on the theme “WATER! A jury of experts in the field will evaluate creations in the Open category.

Since 2022, the Samudra Art Prize has established itself as a major event on the Mauritian art scene. The 2024 edition brought together over 250 works and enabled 232 artists to exhibit at the Caudan Arts Centre. This year, the Open Jury will be made up of three leading figures on the Mauritian art scene: Kim Yip Tong, a multi-disciplinary artist whose film Pie dan lo has been selected for nearly 100 international festivals, Julian Ratinon, Art Curator of the National Art Gallery of Mauritius, and Krishna Luchoomun, a renowned artist and academic.

The jury will select the winners of nine prizes, including Best Work, Impact Prize, Excellence in Technique and the Maurice Giraud Prize for Painting, covering various disciplines: painting, photography, digital art, sculpture and contemporary crafts. For this third edition, the Samudra Art Prize invites artists to explore water in all its diversity: its beauty, fragility and environmental issues. A theme that particularly resonates in Mauritius and its islands, where water shapes landscapes, cultures and everyday challenges.

Deadlines are approaching: February 19, 2026 for Open and Hors-Concours categories, and March 26, 2026 for Young Artists. To assist participants, a registration session will be held on Saturday February 7, by reservation only. The final exhibition of this 2026 edition will be held from June 5 to July 5, and will celebrate Mauritian talent while raising awareness of the island’s environmental and social issues.
