On May 23 and 24, 2025, the House of Digital Art (HoDA) in Port-Louis vibrated to the rhythm of the Festival du Vivant. Organized by the Rogers Group, in collaboration with HoDA and Odysseo, this first-ever festival combining art, biodiversity and civic engagement marked a turning point in the way the general public is made aware of environmental issues. In a world where six of the nine planetary limits have already been crossed – climate change, erosion of biodiversity, disruption of nitrogen and phosphorus cycles, changes in land use, introduction of polluting substances, plastics and pesticides – the need to reconnect with living things is urgent. Throughexhibitions, performances, lectures and hands-on workshops, the festival offered an immersive, intergenerational experience to raise awareness and inspire action.
Structured around five pillars – Living Conversations, Village of Life, Symposium of Life, The Living Arts and Bio Lab – the event enabled visitors to reflect, create and act together for a future more respectful of living things. Scientists, artists, NGOs, citizens and schoolchildren joined forces to rethink our relationship with nature, through games, discussions and the sharing of exhibited projects.
Supported by Rogers “Regenesis program, the festival is part of a wider strategy aimed at integrating biodiversity at the heart of corporate practices. It also echoes Rogers” official participation in the forthcoming United Nations Conference on the Oceans (UNOC3), affirming the growing role of the Mauritian private sector in the ecological transition.
Using powerful symbols, such as the pink color of the first biological pigments or the magic of coral spawning, the Festival du Vivant touched hearts and sowed the seeds of a sustainable commitment.
