In 1932, at the rear of Notre Dame de Lourdes Church in Rose Hill, the sisters of the Congregation of Bon et Perp\u00e9tuel Secours transformed a small stone house into a maternity hospital offering better birthing conditions for the time. Today, the medical institution with six thousand hospital admissions and one thousand births a year is one of the world’s leading maternity hospitals. <\/b> celebrates its 90th birthday!<\/b><\/em><\/p>\n

In 1997, the clinic, which had been handed over to the Port Louis diocese ten years earlier, was sold to a group of private shareholders, alongside Dr Fran\u00e7ois Tadebois and Christiane Tadebois, who were keen to perpetuate the values of trust, ethics, humanity and benevolence that had always been attached to the establishment.<\/p>\n

The following two decades saw the development of five departments, then their gradual renovation from 2011 onwards, from the maternity ward (one of the best in the country) to the brand-new ISO 5-certified operating theatre. Nicolas Tadebois, Head of Operations and Projects, explains that the proven obsolescence of medical equipment means that it has to be replaced every five years or so – a costly investment, but fundamental to the well-being of patients and the comfort of doctors. Highly equipped to perform delicate procedures in general, ophthalmological, orthopedic and gynecological surgery, the facility includes an emergency department, radiology unit, biomedical laboratory, endoscopy room, pharmacy, parapharmacy… <\/p>\n

Defining the caring and dedication intrinsic to family medicine, Nicolas confides: “Our central pillar is our medical team. Many have been with us for many years, because they share the same philosophy: a unique, holistic approach to the patient. Here, the doctor knows almost everything about the patient’s life, from his or her history… to his or her family.”<\/p>\n
