Their dedication and sincerity command admiration and respect. Despite the weight of their chosen task, Shamitha and Jean-Luc Allet never tire of rescuing injured, disabled or dying dogs. <\/b> ZAK<\/em><\/p>\n

“Just as humans have their place on earth, these animals also have a right to life and well-being,” says Jean-Luc, just back from the shelter they’re currently setting up in Flacq. “We bought this land especially for the dogs we rescue. We want them to have a nice space where they’ll feel comfortable,” says Shamitha. Shamitha, who couldn’t resist taking in the sad plight of dogs in distress, <\/span>had started taking them in before Healing Hearts Animal Sanctuary was finally registered in 2019. <\/p>\n

As soon as they are informed of the presence of a sick or injured dog, they set off to retrieve the animal and provide the necessary care. Depending on the situation, rescued dogs are taken to <\/g>the vet or to an appropriate shelter. “We stay by their bedside during the convalescence period, which takes place in our home or with foster families,” she says<\/span>. They<\/span> are then taken to the shelter or offered for adoption. <\/p>\n

Jean-Luc has also learned how to create rolling carts for disabled animals, so that they can regain a degree of independence. “We also organize rehabilitation sessions in the water to teach dogs to walk again after an accident or injury,” adds Shamitha. “We do this work from the heart, and in no way do we consider that we are sacrificing ourselves,” says Jean-Luc.
