On June 6 and 7, the Caudan Arts Centre presents <\/b>Hamlet<\/i><\/b> <\/b><\/span>like you’ve never seen before, since it’s <\/b>100 %<\/b><\/span> Mauritius. This new creation in English, directed by Poonam Seetohul <\/b>,<\/b><\/span> will be marked by the return to the stage, after seven years, of Ashish Beesoondial in the title role, and the contribution of our best professional actors and amateurs from The School, the theater school…<\/b> Dominique Bellier<\/em><\/p>\n

As a teacher of drama and English literature, Poonam Seetohul is no stranger to Shakespeare’s repertoire, for which she has, for example, led practice workshops aptly entitled “Shakespearience <\/span> “<\/span>… For this masterpiece by the playwright, she opted for a short 2h15 format, which led her to condense this text of over four hours, striving to respect the fundamental questioning and musicality of the language.<\/p>\n

Our interviewee also took the liberty, in the spirit of clarification, of rewriting the gravedigger scene in Act V, to make it more punchy and emphasize its comic power, which could proverefreshing<\/span>in this ensemble haunted by the idea of death and the intrigues of power, by love and the great existential questions…<\/p>\n

The director has added a short introductory scene, which provides an essential key to understanding the historical context of this great classic, Shakespeare’s most famous, about the ties between the royalties of Denmark and Norway. Other surprises include songs from eras and styles far more recent than this XVIe<\/sup><\/span> century text will be performed live by Ophelia (Juliette Deloustal) and Gertrude (Sonia Maissin)… <\/p>\n
