Bouz\u00e9, the Indian Ocean hip-hop festival founded by Kenjee Kennedy, returns August 13\u201316, featuring some 50 performers and representing at least ten countries. \u201cFor the first time, we\u2019re welcoming an artist from Botswana.\u201d <\/b>,<\/i><\/b> says the creator of the <\/b>Wake Up Sessions<\/i><\/b>, which have brought to the forefront the leading <\/b>beat killers<\/i><\/b> from Mauritius! <\/b>Dominique Bellier<\/em><\/p>\n

Kenjee Kennedy is strengthening Indian Ocean hip hop by allowing dancers to shape their movements to the music of their choice\u2014<\/span> from dancehall<\/span>and Afrobeat to more traditional styles, such as Mauritian sega and Malagasy salegy! By creating the \u201cChoose Your Style\u201d category alongside breaking\u2014the supreme discipline\u2014he opens up a world of possibilities, allowing artists to express themselves through an even more unique sound\u2026 <\/p>\n

For this 4thth<\/sup><\/span> edition of the Indian Ocean Championship Finals, Zillien is taking on the challenge in this second category. Fans know him alongside his twin brother, Zillio, as part of the dynamic duo Dreadly Twins. These two don\u2019t even need to look at each other to coordinate their moves, and they have over 360,000 followers <\/span>on TikTok. In breakdancing<\/span>, the incredibleB-Boy<\/span>David represented Mauritius in Ghana in November 2025, and he could keep the momentum going\u2026 since he\u2019s qualified again this year. <\/p>\n

In addition to the islands in the region, competitors also come from the mainland: from <\/span>Zimbabwe, Djibouti <\/span>, South Africa<\/span>,Botswana\u2026<\/span> and perhaps even Gabon <\/span>and Togo <\/span>!<\/span> Since 2010, Kenjee Kennedy has organized nearly 300 Wake Up Sessions across Mauritius, sometimes attracting as many as 400 participants! Yet he expresses a hint of weariness: \u201cDespite hip-hop\u2019s immense influence and potential here, there\u2019s a problem with passing it on :<\/span> not enough dancers,<\/span> not enough support!\u201d <\/p>\n
