Seventeen years ago, S\u00e9bastien Mamet joined the Terra Group. Initially in charge of mergers and acquisitions, he took the helm of Agriterra, the sugarcane division, in 2016 and remained there for ten years. In early 2026, he became Managing Director of Grays Inc. Sugarcane in all its forms? He jokes that the circle\u2026 has finally come full circle! <\/b> Eug\u00e9nie Sauzier-de Rosnay<\/em><\/p>\n

Starting in finance, moving on to agriculture and sugar production, and ending up in rum production and bottling\u2026 you could say it\u2019s a slightly unconventional career path! But for S\u00e9bastien, it\u2019s also a journey steeped in logic. After starting out in finance, his time at Agriterra immersed him in the world of agriculture\u2014but above all, in human interaction. \u201cI met passionate, diverse people who were close to nature, and that helped me better understand people,\u201d he says. A true jack-of-all-trades, he learned the ins and outs of sugar production, mechanics, and CAPEX management; he also set about modernizing the plant through automation. <\/p>\n

In 2026, he took on a new challenge by focusing, in Grays, on two sugar byproducts: molasses, used to produce rum, and vinasse, which is repurposed as fertilizer on Agriterra\u2019s fields. For while he may have left one ship to set sail on another, there remains a remarkable synergy among the various entities of Terra, a group that has been built brick by brick over nearly two centuries. \u201cIt\u2019s this wonderful story that we want to tell through our rum, particularly by highlighting, in our creations, the terroir of Agriterra and, by extension, that of Mauritius,\u201d he says. While passing on this legacy is a major undertaking, S\u00e9bastien is brilliantly tackling the challenges of a sector that is new to him. <\/p>\n

Supported by a motivated and experienced team, his role today is to strengthen the company\u2019s shared vision. \u201cWe\u2019ll place even greater emphasis on people: we are One Grays, a united team working toward the same goal, serving our clients,\u201d he emphasizes. Another key focus will be the company\u2019s performance, which he intends to improve through process automation and the introduction of new technologies, such as artificial intelligence.
