His musical success remains the award-winning song “Chaiyya Chaiyya” from Mani Ratnam’s film “Dil Se” in 1998, composed by A. R. Rahman, which earned him the ‘Best Male Playback’ award at the 1999 Filmfare Awards in India.
He earned an international presence for giving his melodious voice to the ultra-successful “Jai Ho” song from the Oscar award winning movie ‘Slumdog Millionaire’, which won an Academy Award for Best Original Song and a Grammy Award for best song written for a motion picture, television or other Visual Media.
