Mauritius Telecom (MT) ambitionne de positionner Maurice comme un carrefour numérique de référence entre l’Afrique et l’Asie, soutenu par un investissement de Rs 20 milliards sur les trois prochaines années.
Cette orientation stratégique a été dévoilée lors de l’événement Mauritius Telecom Connect. Selon Veemal Gungadin, CEO de Mauritius Telecom, MT Connect marque un moment charnière dans la trajectoire numérique du pays. L’événement, organisé en décembre, a réuni de nombreux leaders d’opinion et experts du secteur.
Au cœur de cette stratégie figure le Connectivity Corridor, avec le renforcement des infrastructures internationales grâce à l’arrivée annoncée des câbles sous-marins T4 et SEACOM 2.0, venant compléter les systèmes existants SAFE, LION et T3. Parallèlement, MT poursuit le déploiement de la 5.5G, ou 5G-Advanced, destinée à soutenir des usages avancés tels que l’intelligence artificielle, l’Internet des objets (IoT) et la réalité augmentée.
L’intelligence artificielle s’impose comme un levier majeur de croissance, avec des investissements dans des clusters GPU, un Data Centre Tier IV et des solutions de cloud souverain. Mauritius Telecom mise aussi sur l’innovation locale, l’accompagnement des start-ups et le développement des paiements transfrontaliers via my.t money.
Digital crossroads between Africa and Asia
Mauritius Telecom (MT) aspires to position Mauritius as a leading digital crossroads between Africa and Asia, backed by an investment of Rs 20 billion over the next three years.
This strategic direction was unveiled at the Mauritius Telecom Connect event. According to Veemal Gungadin, CEO of Mauritius Telecom, MT Connect marks a pivotal moment in the country’s digital trajectory. The event, organised in December, brought together numerous thought leaders and industry experts.
At the heart of this strategy lies the Connectivity Corridor, with the strengthening of international infrastructure through the announced arrival of the T4 and SEACOM 2.0 submarine cables, complementing the existing SAFE, LION and T3 systems. In parallel, MT is continuing the rollout of 5.5G, or 5G-Advanced, designed to support advanced applications such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things (IoT) and augmented reality.
Artificial intelligence is emerging as a major growth driver, with investments in GPU clusters, a Tier IV Data Centre and sovereign cloud solutions. Mauritius Telecom is also focusing on local innovation, supporting start-ups and developing cross-border payments via my.t money.
