The brainchild of Calvin Gunness, Keshmi Gopal and Tehseen Abdoolah, Coffee & Co. the island’s first coffee festival, will be held on August 30 and 31, 2025 at Vivéa Business Park in Moka. Here’s an update on what promises to be an exciting event. Eugénie Sauzier-de Rosnay

Since 2024, Calvin Gunness has been churning out innovative concepts. After introducing the famous Malaysian Toast Maker franchise to Mauritius just over a year ago with his partner Aadil Ruhomutally, he decided to launch a festival dedicated to coffee enthusiasts at the end of August – a first on the island! A great way to celebrate the first anniversary of his fast-good restaurant in Port-Louis, which is already operating at full capacity.

In fact, he believes it was his foray into the restaurant business that enabled him to realize the extent of his passion for coffee. “We have coffee producers like Café Chamarel, as well as local roasters like Kuumba. It’s all these different stories that we wanted to share,” explains Calvin.

Sponsored by Ticketbox.mu, Oficea, Kuumba, Mantra Foods, Monin, Grays, JDR Events & Concept, Le Café de Chamarel and Nespresso, the festival aims not only to establish local brands in the hearts of Mauritians, but also the excellence of international products available on the market. “Our ambition is to create a genuine platform for exchange and discovery, while educating the public about the world of coffee,” he continues.

In a delightfully musical atmosphere, a host of activities will punctuate this event, which is above all intended to be a family affair. Latte Art competition, Kids Corner, tastings, expert secrets, overcycling and a recruitment area… The aim is to lay the foundations for a larger-scale event, which will bring together all the players in the sector in the region.
