The first pickleball exchanges began in Mauritius thanks to coach Pascal Laheurte and the RM Club de Grand-Baie. A cross between tennis, badminton and ping-pong, this racket sport is easy to learn. quickly. Fast, dynamic and competitive, it’s also considered social and friendly. ZAK
The feel of the game is closer to tennis than to padel. However, pickleball is less physically demanding and appeals to a wide audience, from children to senior citizens. This is one of the reasons why pickleball has taken off around the world since it was revived in recent years. Pascal has been based in Mauritius since July, and has quickly set about introducing the discipline to the country. Collaboration with the RM Club de Grand-Baie accelerated the process, and the first initiations took place on a hybrid badminton/pickleball court.
“It only takes about 30 minutes for someone to be initiated,” he explains. He discovered pickleball during a stay in Quebec. Used to tennis until then, he quickly made the transition and discovered a new passion, which has now become his profession. He took a complete training course to become a certified coach, and also took part in competitions.
Pickleball is played with a racket called a paddle and a perforated plastic ball, on a court with dimensions similar to badminton. “It can be played by two or four players, indoors or outdoors,” explains the coach. The game requires players to develop strategies based on both precision and positioning. In addition to his activities at the RM Club, Pascal remains available to all interested parties.
