IN’AM: An Ode to Tradition

From the desert plains of Mongolia, home to exceptionally rare down, to the expert hands of artisans in Mauritius—it is but a short step! Born from decades of cultivated craftsmanship, IN’AM —meaning ‘gift’ in Persian—has established itself since its creation in 1998 as the essential cashmere brand in Mauritius. Its secret? Tradition, excellence, authenticity and transparency!

It is a long and beautiful story: heir to the textile expertise of Bonair and its former sister brand Maille Street, IN’AM, now nearly thirty years old, stands out in the local market, with its two boutiques in Goodlands and Grand Baie, through its sincere and authentic approach. In the Goodlands factory, artisans’ hands move deftly across looms, bringing to life defined pieces that are then assembled and embellished under the needles of meticulous seamstresses.

Herein lies IN’AM’s beauty: everything is handmade, from conception to quality control, including labelling. Whilst collections come and go, certain timeless pieces are continually reimagined. Supplying internationally renowned brands, this cashmere specialist also innovates by cultivating a niche, people-centred market. In 2017, even before the rise of e-commerce on the island, Atelier IN’AM was born. The name says it all: as in a traditional workshop, time flows gently, to the rhythm of stitches and cables.

The pieces, prepared bespoke with the highest quality cashmere, are available on the brand’s website and in its Goodlands shop, with delivery across the island and internationally. The very model of anti-fast fashion, each garment is infused with the passion of a myriad of textile professionals, from styling to weaving, from sewing to sales. Ecru, Turtle Dove, Garnet, Dark Olive… The fabrics come in a multitude of hues and are assembled according to one’s desires.

Whilst the brand places tradition at the heart of its operations, it remains nonetheless sensitive to modern concerns. This is evidenced by its commitment to responsible, zero-waste production, materialised, for example, through the treatment and reuse of wastewater produced during fabric washing. Not a thread is lost: leftover textile is repurposed into various accessories, such as children’s bonnets.

IN’AM also offers a repair service for damaged garments from their factory to extend their longevity, as well as recycling irreparable garments by giving them new life. Championing sustainability, the brand, whose reputation precedes it, embodies with poetry an unpretentious excellence.
