Mauritius Telecom (MT) aims to position Mauritius as a key digital hub between Africa and Asia, supported by an investment of Rs 20 billion over the next three years.

This strategic direction was unveiled at the Mauritius Telecom Connect event. According to Veemal Gungadin, CEO of Mauritius Telecom, MT Connect marks a pivotal moment in the country’s digital trajectory. The event, held in December, brought together numerous opinion leaders and industry experts.

At the heart of this strategy is the Connectivity Corridor, with the announced arrival of the T4 and SEACOM 2.0 submarine cables, complementing the existing SAFE, LION and T3 systems. At the same time, MT continues to roll out 5.5G, or 5G-Advanced, designed to support advanced uses such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things (IoT) and augmented reality.

Artificial intelligence is a major growth driver, with investments in GPU clusters, a Tier IV data center and sovereign cloud solutions. Mauritius Telecom is also focusing on local innovation, supporting start-ups and developing cross-border payments via my.t money.
