Mauritian golf confirms its progression on the regional and international scenes. This was underlined by Yannick Merven, President of the Mauritius Golf Federation (MGF), at the annual Order of Merit (OOM) ceremony held at the end of November. ZAK
The MGF is delighted with Mauritius’ growing presence in the major African competitions: the African Amateur Championship, the All Africa Junior Team Championship and the very first edition of the Africa Region 4 Juniors. At the latter tournament, the national team took a fine third place, a particularly encouraging result for the discipline.
The future looks bright for the next generation. Two young hopefuls, Gabriel Le Court de Billot and Tanishq Nobeen, now feature in the World Amateur Golf Ranking, a milestone for Mauritian golf. In addition,the MCB Juniors team continues to evolve,with new recruits, increased technical support and the development of the Next Gen project, designed to help youngsters reach a higher level of competition.
The “Golf for All” program also continues to gain momentum, with introductory sessions held in schools and at the MSC. The opening of the second MGF-Tiga golf school at the Gymkhana marks a major step forward in the democratization of golf in Mauritius. The initiative has been praised by the R&A for its inclusive approach.
On the technical front, Yannick Merven announced an expanded role for the Handicap Committee from 2025, with modernized procedures and the arrival of dedicated software for handicap and tournament management. The ceremony was also an opportunity to celebrate the winners of the Junior National Order of Merit and the National Order of Merit 2025, including Olivia d’Arifat, Dwij Ramlogun, Tanishq Nobeen, Kamla Beeharry, Beatrice d’Arifat, Nand Sooredoo, Reshad Purdasy, Gaspar Vercamer, Rakesh Channoo and Vishnoo Seeneevassen, whose performances illustrate the vitality of Mauritian golf.
