We’ll have to wait a little for the harvest, but several edible fruit trees have already been planted on a former wasteland, according to the rules of permaculture, in the space reserved for the forest garden that the Veranda hotel in Pointe aux Biches has created nearby. The site is both an experimentation and training ground for Club Terre members and a production area for healthy fruits and spices…
The training provided by The Gardenist’s representative is both theoretical and practical, enabling participants – whether school-going teenagers or local market gardeners interested in these practices – to immediately apply what they’ve learned in the classroom with the help and advice of the trainer. Club Terre has already welcomed 13 young people and plans to hire 10 professionals for future workshops.
The aim is to encourage environmental education, sustainable farming practices and food self-sufficiency. With the new forest garden, members have learned everything that makes it so valuable: composting, natural soil enrichment and preparation, planting and mulching, maintenance, and so on. Additional workshops on topics such as resource management and crop rotation are also offered. The Club is still in its infancy, but its success will be measured by the sustainability of these first crops, the involvement of members and the impact on the local community…
