Located in the lush green valleys of a region steeped in history, FERNEY stands out not only as a must-visit destination in the southeastern part of the island, but also as a wonderful place to live… Its unique concept, Tropical Agrihood, expanded in September with a new development: The Orchards. A project that remains true to the estate’s philosophy: that of a vibrant, dynamic space where agriculture, nature, and residential living coexist in harmony.
A region steeped in history, the southeast has nevertheless managed to weather the centuries without losing any of its authenticity. FERNEY, one of the island’s last bastions of native wildlife, supports this balance through gentle, gradual development. Of the 3,000 hectares of land, only 474 will be dedicated to an environmentally responsible development program spanning more than 20 years. Following the success of its first project, FERNEY Farm Living, Agrihood continues its expansion with a brand-new phase: The Orchards, a wooded site bordered by a stream, offering breathtaking views of Lion Mountain.
Running alongside the future village center—which is itself built around a repurposed former sugar factory and home to numerous shops and businesses—this agri-residential neighborhood includes, in its first phase, 54 lots ranging in size from 27 to 50 perches. The philosophy remains the same: a low-density, integrated development that is closely connected to nature, promoting a healthy lifestyle and contributing to the region’s social fabric. Nestled between a lagoon and lush valleys, mountains, and mangroves, The Orchards promises a timeless experience, closer to what truly matters.
The project specifications were thus designed to integrate as harmoniously as possible into this preserved setting: bioclimatic architecture, low-carbon infrastructure, rainwater harvesting, natural stormwater runoff systems… And as its name suggests, The Orchards will offer agroecological fields available for shared ownership— a concept developed by Ferney Agro Services, an organization specializing in sustainable agriculture and regenerative practices, without the use of chemicals.
Teeming with tropical and local species, these green spaces will change with the seasons, offering a wealth of fruits, vegetables, and herbs available to all neighborhood residents. These “farm-to-fork” practices truly reflect FERNEY’s vision: greater resilience, greater self-sufficiency, and above all, better health. “ “We want to promote a healthy lifestyle, an environment that fosters well-being, a circular economy, and a reduced carbon footprint, all while integrating the project into the site’s natural beauty,” says Luke Maurel, Head of Business Unit at Ferney Ltd. Living in harmony with the surrounding nature: is this finally a reality?
