For the first edition of Fet Lamizik, a colorful day unfolded in the heart of Beau Bassin-Rose Hill. On Sunday, June 21, 2026, the city partnered with the Institut Français de Maurice and the agency Culture Events & Production to host a large, free public festival dedicated to the island’s rich musical heritage.
The event took place simultaneously at several iconic locations throughout the city: Rose Hill Station (Galaxy), Rozil Bazaar, Beau Bassin Taxi Square, and the Plaza. Starting in the morning, artists Ezy Nick and Moya, Raskenco and Kavi Joganah, and TazNTofer and Nabi performed on these various outdoor stages, turning every street corner into a space for music and community.
The big evening concert at the Plaza, meanwhile, brought together some of the leading figures of the Mauritian music scene. Grup Latanier, founded in 1979 by the Joganah brothers and a mainstay of local protest music, shared the stage with Mary-Jane and Denis-Claude Gaspard, heirs to the great family tradition of Jean-Claude Gaspard’s sega. Ravanne Sans Frontières, a guardian of traditional séga and the ravanne, shared the stage with Steve Augustin, a popular singer-songwriter whose songs have become classics, and Yen Kannamma, a group centered on Tamil séga that skillfully blends Dravidian rhythms with local sounds.
A program that truly showcases Mauritius’s cultural diversity and promises great events to come!
