It was under the sunny skies of Belle Mare that the Indian Ocean’s largest women’s amateur golf tournament reached its conclusion. The Constance Mauritius Ladies Open (CMLO) concluded with a resounding victory for French golfer Lucie Gendronneau, a resident of Réunion, who won the gross title in Category 1 with a score of 228. A remarkable performance for this former French champion, who has now entered the WAGR world rankings!
Over 120 female golfers from the region and beyond took to the legendary Links and Legend courses at Constance Hotels & Resorts over three days, divided into three categories based on their skill level. In CAT 1, there are two separate leaderboards: Lucie Gendronneau won the gross category—based on her actual score—with 228 strokes, while Kenyan Rachel Ndei won the net category—the score adjusted according to each player’s handicap—with 208 points. On the Mauritian side, Saachi Foollee and Francesca Lagesse won CAT 2 and CAT 3, respectively, with scores of 80 and 76 points.
This edition also marks a new chapter in the partnership between Constance Hotels & Resorts and the Mauritius Ladies Golf Union (LGU), which was signed last year. “Beyond the competition, this tournament embodies the values of sharing, passion, and excellence,” said Sébastien Pilot, Golf Director at Constance Belle Mare Plage, highlighting Mauritius’s growing appeal as an international golf destination.
As for the LGU, its president, Béatrice d’Arifat, is delighted with the steadily improving level of play, an encouraging sign for the future of women’s golf in Mauritius. Lucie Gendronneau, for her part, did not hide her emotion: “It was an immense honor to have my name added to the list of participants in this legendary tournament. I’ll be very happy to be back next year.”
This year’s tournament confirms, once again, that the Constance Mauritius Ladies Open has established itself as an unmissable—and spectacular—event in women’s golf in the region!
