Moka on a bicycle!

In early September, ER Property launched Roulib, an electric bicycle rental service for companies based in Moka City. A first in Mauritius, this formula marks the start of a great adventure in soft mobility… Dominique Bellier

74% of employees in Smart City companies would like to get on their bikes for short trips to lunch or meetings. This estimate is the result of a study carried out in June 2024… “They’re right. They’re right, because travel is one of the most polluting factors in the city,” notes Anielle Carver, Sustainable Development Manager at ER Property.

Soft mobility,” she continues, “is one of the six pillars of our strategy. But before we start renting bikes, or scooters, which we’ve been encouraging for the past three years, we need to create the appropriate infrastructure and spaces…” Moka City has sidewalks for pedestrians, bike paths along various arteries, and the famous “Promenade exclusive” to pedestrians, scooters and cyclists, which will eventually reach 6 kilometers.

Roulib currently manages eight stations located in Moka’s various business parks and malls, and a fleet of 50 electric bicycles, which will grow rapidly if the 13,000 employees and their companies get on board… and even more if residents subscribe via their condominiums! The formula has already proved its worth in Saint-Paul, La Réunion, where the same service provider operates a fleet of around 100 bicycles.

These two-wheelers feature three speeds and an anti-theft system. Once the employer has subscribed, the user registers and manages his or her journeys free of charge on a highly intuitive and fluid application. And, of course, the maintenance team is on hand to advise and guide new riders!
