This minimally invasive technique makes it possible to replace a diseased aortic valve without resorting to open-heart surgery. C-Care Darné now offers the TAVI procedure ( Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation) for patients with severe aortic stenosis. A new treatment option explained by Dr. Gemina Doolub, an interventional cardiologist at C-Care Darné. ZAK

Aortic stenosis is a condition characterized by a narrowing of the aortic valve, which restricts blood flow between the heart and the rest of the body. It can cause severe shortness of breath, chest pain, dizziness, and even loss of consciousness. Once symptoms appear, the condition can quickly affect patients’ quality of life. “Prompt evaluation and management of aortic stenosis are essential for improving outcomes and quality of life,” emphasizes Dr. Doolub. With the TAVI technique, the new valve is implanted using a catheter, which is most often inserted through an artery in the groin. This approach avoids opening the chest and, in most cases, requires only local anesthesia combined with light sedation.

“The launch of a local program at C-Care Darné represents an important step in expanding access to specialized care for structural heart diseases,” explains Dr. Doolub. She has extensive experience gained at several international centers of excellence. She specializes in the TAVI procedure as well as complex coronary interventions, following advanced training and fellowships in the United Kingdom and Canada. This type of procedure allows for a shorter hospital stay, a faster recovery, and an earlier return to daily activities. This revolutionary procedure is primarily intended for patients with severe symptomatic aortic stenosis, particularly the elderly or those for whom conventional surgery poses an increased risk.
