Dans ce nouvel espace, PAWS espère offrir un environnement agréable et sécurisé aux chiens et chats qui y seront hébergés. Les travaux d’aménagement – installation de niches, pose de barrières de sécurité et autres infrastructures – avancent parallèlement au déménagement prévu pour fin août. En plus du refuge, les bureaux et la clinique de l’association y seront également installés.
« Nous voulons que nos invités soient en sécurité et qu’ils disposent de suffisamment d’espace pour courir et s’épanouir », explique Sonia Pougnet, directrice de l’association. Le soutien des volontaires est essentiel à la réussite de ce projet. « Nous nous installons dans un bâtiment en cours de rénovation. Ceux qui le souhaitent peuvent nous rejoindre pour la peinture et les autres travaux à terminer », ajoute-t-elle.
Situé à proximité de Poudre d’Or et de Rivière du Rempart, le site de Panchavati répond pleinement aux critères fixés par PAWS dans le cadre de sa mission. À partir de septembre, le public pourra s’y rendre pour les services habituels : stérilisation, soins, etc. L’adoption, en particulier des chiots, reste une priorité. Certains animaux adultes hébergés au refuge sont âgés, handicapés ou nécessitent des soins spécifiques.
Dans un premier temps, environ 80 chiens quitteront Mon Loisir pour rejoindre Panchavati. PAWS espère pouvoir en accueillir une centaine prochainement, ainsi que des chats. Fondée en 1999, l’ONG poursuit inlassablement son travail de terrain, tout en contribuant à l’éducation et à la responsabilisation de la population pour le respect des droits des animaux.
PAWS relocates its northern shelter
Very soon, PAWS will welcome its little friends in its new shelter in Panchavati. After five years spent in Mon Loisir, the association is beginning a new chapter and is calling on volunteers to finalize the work.
In this new space, PAWS hopes to offer a pleasant and secure environment for the dogs and cats that will be housed there. The development work—installation of kennels, installation of security barriers and other infrastructure—is progressing alongside the move planned for the end of August. In addition to the shelter, the association’s offices and clinic will also be installed there.
“We want our guests to be safe and to have enough space to run and flourish,” explains Sonia Pougnet, director of the association. The support of volunteers is essential to the success of this project. “We are moving into a building under renovation. Those who wish can join us to paint and complete other works”, she adds.
Located near Poudre d’Or and Rivière du Rempart, the Panchavati site fully meets the criteria set by PAWS as part of its mission. Starting in September, the public will be able to go there for the usual services: sterilization, care, etc. Adoption, particularly of puppies, remains a priority. Some adult animals housed at the shelter are elderly, disabled or require specific care.
Initially, about 80 dogs will leave Mon Loisir to join Panchavati. PAWS hopes to be able to welcome a hundred soon, as well as cats. Founded in 1999, the NGO tirelessly continues its fieldwork, while contributing to the education and empowerment of the population concerning the respect of animal rights.
