Created in January 2025, the Football Féminin Académie Nord (FFAN) is an ambitious initiative for the development of women’s soccer in Mauritius. Based in Grand Baie, the academy welcomes girls aged 8 to 14 with a clear objective to use soccer as a lever for personal development. ZAK

“Our mission is to provide quality sports coaching and to pass on essential values such as discipline, self-confidence, leadership and team spirit,” explains Maria Jouaneau, President of FFAN. A former trainer and sports therapist for the women’s national and international teams, she was determined to bring this project to fruition.

Alongside her, Cynthia Edouard, assistant president, national coach and former national and international player, plays a central role in the academy’s development. “Women’s soccer deserves more space and more recognition. We want to give young girls the opportunity to believe in their potential and go as far as possible,” she emphasizes.

FFAN also relies on Joenica Edouard, former national and international player, now coach, and Anaëlle Auguste, coach and active national player. Together, they are building a project based on rigor, honesty and perseverance.

One of the highlights of the year was the official inauguration of the new premises in Grand Baie, in the presence of the Minister of Youth and Sports. This new infrastructure now provides FFAN with a headquarters, fitted-out containers and a workspace dedicated to training.

FFAN sees itself as “a family, a project of the heart”. For the future, the objective is clear: to officially create the club in order to integrate the Mauritius women’s league. “We want to enable our young girls to progress to the highest level, to proudly represent the Mauritian federation and the national flag,” says Maria.
