Alice Béchard practices a profession that is still relatively unknown in Mauritius: veterinary osteopathy. This calling stems from a lifelong passion for animals. This manual therapy aims to identify and correct dysfunctions that may affect joints, muscles, tissues, or certain organs. Its goal is to improve the animal’s mobility, comfort, and well-being. ZAK
For Alice, 25, each consultation goes far beyond just the physical adjustments. “An osteopathy session is also part of a conversation—whether with the owner or with the animal, who uses signals to let me know what’s bothering them.” It was while observing the work of an osteopath who regularly visited Mauritius to treat horses that she discovered this discipline.
After graduating from high school, she enrolled at the Institute for Training in Veterinary Osteopathy in Barcelona. For five years, she trained in the care of numerous species: dogs, cats, horses, cattle, as well as rabbits, ferrets, and chickens. Upon completing her program, she passed the exam administered by the National Council of the French Veterinary Association, which is required to practice in France.

Alice works with both sport horses and older dogs that require regular care. She also treats animals suffering from the aftereffects of trauma or surgery, always in conjunction with veterinary care. Passionate about her work, Alice continues to pursue ongoing professional development. “Every day is different, and so is every animal,” she emphasizes.
Among the stories that left a lasting impression on her is that of Milo, a dog rescued from the street after a serious accident. For more than two months, Alice checked in on him every week. Little by little, Milo regained his mobility, his desire to play, and his zest for life. Now all he needs is a family for his story to have a truly happy ending.
