In three years, Louspoir has enabled 270 dogs to be adopted abroad. Locally, hundreds more have been rescued and sterilized. This association, launched by Sandra Pennucci after an unexpected encounter on a beach, has created a wonderful wave of solidarity. ZAK

That day, her attention was drawn to a stray dog following her. Their fates were sealed, and everything changed for them. Upset by the condition of her travelling companion, Sandra confides: “I decided to save her. Her appeal was heard in France, where a chain of solidarity led to Lou’s repatriation. The support of Lorena Gaus, who has since become a precious ally, made the unthinkable possible.

“From this story came a deep conviction: if Lou could be saved, then others can too.” Louspoir was thus founded in 2023 to bring well-being and hope to abandoned and abused dogs in Mauritius. “Our mission is the mass sterilization of stray dogs, to combat dog overpopulation and prevent suffering and abandonment.”

With the help of professionals and volunteers, the association cares for, accompanies, rescues, vaccinates, sterilizes, finds shelters and new families for its protégés. It facilitates adoption in Mauritius and abroad, raises awareness and collaborates with the authorities and partners including The Animal House Rescue with Lorena, Indie’s world with Malika and Cindy, and Wellbeing of Strayswith Manishi. Louspoir also benefits from the invaluable collaboration of Dr Keyur and Dr Bhavin, both veterinarians.

“We receive no government aid orsubsidies. We survive thanks to donations and the events I organize, such as La Fête du Chien in Levens, whose third edition will take place on Sunday June 7. A first edition is also planned for June 28 in Castellane. Actions are continuing, and Louspoir is appealing for support to continue carrying hope.
