Three women, five days, 265 kilometers by bike around Mauritius: that’s the challenge Kirsty, Michelle, and Melissa have set for themselves to raise funds for the Community Sterilization Campaign (CSC), an organization dedicated to spaying and neutering stray dogs and cats. ZAK

With a departure scheduled for August 12 at 7 a.m. in Mont Choisy, the Babes ThatBike hope to raise public awareness and encourage donations. “Every rupee will help break the cycle of homelessness and give future generations of animals the chance to live healthier and safer lives,” explains Melissa. Having lived in Mauritius for several years, the three athletes are funding this initiative themselves. Passionate about running, paddleboarding, and cycling, they wanted to channel their energy into helping abandoned animals.

“If stepping out of my comfort zone can help raise awareness and funds to prevent the suffering of thousands of unwanted puppies and kittens, then every climb, every ache in my legs, and every uncomfortable saddle will be worth it,” says Kirsty. Michelle adds, “Whether you choose to make a donation or simply share our fundraiser, together we can build a kinder future for animals.”

Founded in 2021, the Community Sterilization Campaign is run entirely by volunteers and funded by private donations. From 40 spay/neuter procedures in 2021, the organization increased its numbers to 1,470 in 2025 thanks to a network of partner veterinarians, a spay/neuter voucher system, and spay/neuter days (“Steri Days”). In the wake of these collective efforts, the Babes that Bike island tour will conclude in Mont Choisy, where participants will be welcomed by their loved ones and supporters.
