Pointe d’Esny Le Village is gradually building its nest, following the rules required to preserve the exceptional character of its environment, close to one of the country’s largest wetlands. Take a tour of the green spaces with Biodiversity consultant Jean-Claude Sevathian and Caroline Raffray, head of real estate development at Compagnie de Beauvallon… Dominique Bellier

On May 22, Jean-Claude Sevathian and Caroline Raffray welcomed us to a 12-hectare natural area that is an integral part of Pointe d’Esny Le Village, a PDS (Property Development Scheme) real estate project. We visited this area, which forms a buffer between the Village and the wetland, as two small buildings under construction stood on its edge, facing Lion Mountain and overlooking a pretty string of ponds.

The companies Pointe d’Esny Lakeside (PDLC) and Beau Vallon (BVL) are aiming to plant some 7,000 trees in this area in order to re-establish endemism or indigenousness. To achieve this, invasive species such as poppy, filaos and eucalyptus need to be controlled. Machines were in the process of uprooting these plants.

The restoration of these areas, carried out in consultation with the authorities due to their proximity to a sensitive Ramsar-listed zone, requires this clearing prior to the blossoming of endemic or indigenous species compatible with the coastal climate. The area is then regularly tended by ploughwomen, who provide the necessary maintenance to ensure the survival of the new plants, aided by drip watering. This guarantees breathtaking views and soothing strolls, on the lookout for a few moorhens, bass and other leaping fish eager to get some fresh air.
