The urgent need for a national sterilization campaign

The situation is critical. Moris Steriliz or Zanimo (SOZ) has brought together a number of committed organizations to call for the urgent implementation of a national sterilization campaign. The aim is to curb dog overpopulation, which has an impact on both animal rights and society as a whole. ZAK

A cry of alarm was sounded at a press conference where SOZ brought together numerous mass sterilization campaigners, including Community Sterilization Campaign (CSC), Indie’s World, The Neuter Warriors, Happy Tails Sanctuary & Adoption Center, Pink Pony Charity Trust, Bruiser & Co., 4Paws Rescue & Relocation, Silent Protest For Animal Welfare, and Ansam South Sterilization & Welfare Campaign. “The current situation has reached an alarming level, with direct impacts on public health and increasingly degraded animal welfare.”

For those involved, the actions taken to date remain fragmented and insufficient to respond to the scale of the phenomenon. Without a structured and rapid national commitment, the situation is likely to worsen. “Animals are suffering in the meantime”, they insist. They call on the authorities to work jointly with civil society on a number of priorities: reform of veterinary protocols deemed unsuitable for mass operations, introduction of a temporary permit for foreign veterinarians, consideration of ethical and effective capture methods, and improved logistics with better coordination of data and intervention zones.

The NGOs also advocate the establishment of a partnership with an international structure such as the International Animal Welfare Protection Coalition, in order to strengthen local expertise, logistical resources and intervention capacities. The organizations also suggest setting up mobile clinics, using existing structures such as gymnasiums and community centers, and identifying priority areas for intervention.
